Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province in China. Guangzhou is a famous cultural city with a history of more than 2,200 years. As early as the Chou Period, in the 9th century BC, there were exchanges between the Baiyue people of Guangzhou and the people of the Chu State in the middle reaches of Yangtze River. The name "Chu Ting", which was the earliest name of Guangzhou, originated in the 33rd year of Emperor Qin Shihuang (214 BC). Qin unified Lingnan, Nanhai prefecture (the Capital was built at "Panyu") and in the year of 226, in order to strengthen his rule, Sun Quan divided the original Jiaozhou into two parts- Jiaozhou and Guangzhou, name of Guangzhou was established. When the municipal council was set up in 1921, Guangzhou became the city it is today. Guangzhou is a booming city with a strong economy and fast growth, which benefits the people's livelihood along the way. In recent years, the income of both urban and rural residents has been continuously growing, and local people's living standard has been considerably changed.In 2014, the per capita disposable income of urban residents rose 8.9% to 42,955 Yuan and the per capita disposable income of urban residents rose 10.3% (actually rose 7.7% due to the inflation) to 17,633 Yuan. As the birthplace of Maritime Silk Road in China, Guangzhou has always been an important port city. It has prosperous economy and trade, and open its arms to the merchants from all over the world. In 2020, the GDP volume of Guangzhou reached 250.191 billion yuan. The total import and export value amounted to 130.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 9.8%. The proportion of tertiary industry continued to rise, and high technology industry, strategic emerging industry and new businesses saw faster expansion. |
